On Wednesday all the leaders had a meeting. Our first topic to discuss was the artwork that we are doing on the chorus box. The other thing that we talked about was how far along everyone was in achieving their merit badges. I showed the care value of active thinking by putting forward lots of good ideas. I showed the learner quality of collaborating.

On Tuesday we had a leadership meeting about the chorus box. In the meeting we discussed who was going to go down on what day and do what. I am going next week to do some of the designing. In the meeting I showed the care value of excellence by showing my best. I also showed the learner quality of communicating by putting forward my ideas.

Tech - excellence blog post 2

Last Thursday we took the bus to Lincoln for technology. On the bus ride I showed the respect value by talking quietly to the people around me and not screaming over everyone. I showed the learner quality of empathy by thinking of others and not talking loudly. at tech I am doing science, in class we did robotics. we had to program and then test them.

Wellington - Excellence blog post 1

On the 14th of November the year 8's went to Wellington. While I was there I showed the care value of Respect by respecting the public in the mornings when they were trying to get to work. I also respected the people in parliament by talking quietly and not screaming.

Letter Writing

In Writing we have been learning to: Write a formal letter.

We have followed the writing process and have planned and drafted a formal letter.

One thing that I found challenging about writing formal letters was setting out the paragraphs and writing in a formal way.

My next step is: look for more opportunities to put my letter writing knowledge into practice in the future.

Koru Games Reflection

In the Koru Games the sport I competed in was volleyball

Our team won 6th place out of 24 teams

I found the experience to be really fun and interesting because i got to meet new people and play a new sport

In terms of working with Individuals and Groups; my solo level is extended abstract because I feel we did really good and whenever one of the teachers gave us advice we took it

For Teamwork; my solo level is relational because we all took on our own responsibilities on the court

Reading - Evaluate Author's Purpose

In reading we have been learning to….evaluate writer's purposes and consider how they have used structure and language to suit these purposes. (e.g.  I can make decisions about why the writer has written a piece of writing and how they have used particular structures and words to meet their purpose.)

My Next Step: Is to continue to apply this new knowledge and evaluate texts as I read them, checking to see that the author is meeting their intended purpose.

Term 2 Book Reveiw

Castaway: 13 year old Sam Clark's parents died in a house fire. The book tells you his journey traveling on a ship to find his brother that works at sea. He makes new friends along the way. The ship wrecks on Disappointment Island. 15 of the 28 crew members survive; Sam being one of them. For 7 months they live on this Island eating Mollymawks and Seals. They make grass huts and fight for survival. After 7 months of living on this miserable island they are rescued by a science expedition.

I would recommend this to someone who enjoys reading about history. Its a hard book to get into but its an interesting journey.

In about week 7 of term 2 we had a leadership meeting on what we had to do to keep our positions. by the end of the term we had to have 9 blog posts. if you had 6 by the end of week 8 you got to contribute in a shared lunch.

Leaders day out

Mr Ladbrook organised for us to go to the city council for the day. we took the public but to the hospital and walked to the council building. While we were there we found out what the city council does in our community. We then split off into groups and went with a council member the learn about their role. After learning about the city council we went out for lunch then took the bus home.

Leadership meeting

We discussed something that we could do in the community. We decided to paint one of the electric green power boxes to prevent someone tagging it. We haven't taken action on this project yet but hope to in the near future.

Term 2 Novel Study

This term I have been reading and studying the novel Castaway

I found this novel okay because it's not the type of book I like to read.

During the novel I had to complete a thinking map which shows that I can classify how the author has shown the theme of the book.

• I can locate, evaluate, analyse and summarize information and ideas within texts and across a range of texts.
• I have a large vocabulary that is connected to my own knowledge about the world and includes: - academic e.g observe vs watch - subject-specific (specific words about a subject (e.g feline) - technical terms (specialised vocabulary of a particular field.)

Overall I would give this novel a rating of  6/10 and I would / would not recommend it to others to read because some people like to read books about history and I think they would like it.

Music Term 2

For Music this term, three things I learnt were:

1. How to rap

2. New Zealand and world artist's

3. How to write a rap

Something I found challenging was writing my rap about school because I couldn't think of any good rhyming words.

home learning challenge (R8)

Pasta is a traditional Italian cuisine. We made tortellini pasta. Tortellini are typically stuffed with a mix of meat or cheese and originally from Italian region of Emilia. In Italy they are usually served in a broth but at our house we like having it with a creamy sauce.
It is a simple meal to make as you need to just boil the pasta until cooked, add what ever you want to have with it and mix and finally add the sauce.

 Prepare an itinerary for a tourist visiting Christchurch.

9:00 am- Enjoy the ride on the Gondola

11:30 am- Drive or catch the bus to the botanic gardens.

12:00 pm- Arrive at the botanic gardens. Find a nice spot to sit and have a picnic.

1:00 pm- After lunch have a walk in the gardens and look at the old trees and pretty flowers.

3:00 pm- Christchurch Museum is in walking distance from the park and has lots of cool old things to look at and lots of interesting things too.

4:00 pm- Go to Willowbank wildlife reserve and have a look at some of NZ's native animals and birds, feed the birds, feed the farm animals and check out the great walkways.

6:00 pm: Home for dinner.

In CAREERS EDUCATION we have been learning to write a skills based Curriculum Vitae.

A skills based C.V. focuses more on the skills that we have,  rather than our work history.

Three things that I have learned about writing a Curriculum Vitae are:

1. not to make it too long.
2.  using bullet points instead of sentences.

3. be strict with your punctuation.
